Ashville, AL (February 22, 2024) – Early on Tuesday morning, February 20, an Anniston man was killed and two others were hurt after a multi-vehicle accident in the Ashville area. The deadly collision was reported on Interstate 59 at around 9:15 a.m. Local reports indicated that Ryan C. Harrison of Anniston was driving a Kia Optima when he collided head-on with an oncoming 2022 Toyota Corolla driven by 29-year-old Derramus C. Bothwell of Steele.

The initial impact caused the Kia to be hit by an oncoming Freightliner tractor-trailer driven by 39-year-old Ronald Edouard of Florida. The Kia finally left the roadway where it overturned. The commercial rig also left the road and hit a tree. The resulting crash debris was then hit by a 2018 Volvo tractor-trailer operated by a Calera man.

Harrison suffered fatal injuries in the collision and was pronounced dead at the scene. Bothwell was airlifted to the University of Alabama at Birmingham for treatment, and Edouard was also hurt and transported to the medical facility by ambulance. An ongoing investigation into the cause of the deadly crash is being handled by local law enforcement officials.

We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of Ryan C. Harrison at this time. Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families in hopes of a full recovery.
