Alpine, AL – Sylacauga Man Dies in Pedestrian Crash on AL-21

Alpine, AL (March 17, 2024) – On Thursday, March 14, a Sylacauga man died as a result of a pedestrian accident in the Alpine area. The fatal crash was reported in Talladega County on AL-21 near Desoto Caverns Parkway late that night at around 10:40 p.m. Emergency crews were quickly dispatched to the scene after being notified of a pedestrian-vehicle crash. 

Local reports revealed that 31-year-old James W. Meeks of Sylacauga was walking along the highway when he was hit by an oncoming motor vehicle. The driver involved was later identified as 45-year-old Trederick L. Cook also of Sylacauga. Meeks suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. No further information on the deadly accident is currently available. An ongoing investigation into the cause of the fatal pedestrian crash is being managed by local law enforcement officials, and more updates will be provided as it continues.
