Heflin, AL – Deputy Hurt in Crash with Suspect on I-20

Heflin, AL (March 25, 2024) – A deputy was injured following a pursuit in the Heflin area on Saturday, March 23. The crash was reported on Interstate 20 late that night near the Georgia state line. Local reports from the the Cleburne County Sheriff’s Office revealed that the driver of a pickup truck intentionally hit a Tallapoosa Police officer’s patrol unit. 

The suspect was later spotted by deputies, and the driver again attempted to hit the patrol vehicles. The suspect driver was in reverse when he hit the front of a deputy’s cruiser. Both vehicles were disabled on the interstate. The suspect is currently facing multiple charges, including attempted murder. The injured deputy was transported to a hospital in Anniston for treatment of sustained injuries. No further information on the accident is currently available. An ongoing investigation into the cause of the accident is being managed by local law enforcement officials.
