Deadly Head-on Collisions in Alabama

Mobile, AL - Mississippi Man Dies in Head-on Crash on Airport Blvd

Alabama is known for its extensive network of long, two-lane highways that lack a median or divider, creating a potentially dangerous situation for drivers. This means a driver faces the risk of getting involved in a head-on collision when they cross the center line into oncoming traffic. These crashes cause a lot of damage and life-changing injuries. In the United States, head-on collisions cause about 10 percent of all traffic fatalities every year but account for fewer than 2 percent of all reported crashes nationwide. Every year, thousands of people lose their lives in head-on collisions. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) estimates that these crashes have a nearly 56 percent fatality rate.
