Deadly Tractor-Trailer Crashes in Alabama

Castleberry, AL - Woman Dies in Head-on Semi Crash on US-31

On Alabama’s roads, semi-trucks are notorious for causing some of the most devastating collisions. While there are many potential causes of these crashes, careless driving, poorly maintained vehicles, fatigued truck drivers, and heavy traffic are the most common. On American roads and highways, 4,440 big trucks and buses are involved in crashes each year, according to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA). Data from a University of Alabama report indicates that there were 2,184 injuries and 89 fatalities from 7,782 tractor-trailer crashes in the state last year. In Alabama, there are over 6,000 trucking companies, and it is common to see semi-trucks while traveling in the state.
