Opelika, AL (July 2, 2024) – One is dead, and two others injured following a single-vehicle crash in the Opelika area on Saturday, June 29. The deadly crash was reported on US-280 near mile marker 103 that afternoon, around 4:16 p.m. The victims were traveling in a 2006 Jeep Cherokee when the vehicle left the roadway, hit a ditch, and crashed into a tree. 

Emergency responders were rushed to the scene to provide the necessary aid. The driver, 74-year-old Barbara T. Buckner of Opelika, was injured in the crash and transported to Piedmont Hospital in Columbus, GA, along with a passenger. Another passenger, 81-year-old Carol L. Deangelo, also from Opelika, was killed in the impact. No further information on the deadly crash is currently available. An ongoing investigation into the cause of the collision is being managed by local law enforcement officials.
