Clanton, AL – Passenger Dies in Rollover on I-65

Clanton, AL (May 4, 2024) – One person was killed and another was hurt following a rollover accident outside of Clanton on Friday, May 3. The deadly accident took place on Interstate 65 near mile marker 212 in Chilton County early that morning around 4 a.m. Local reports revealed that the victims were traveling in a 2022 GMC Savanna van when the vehicle left the roadway. 

The van hit a cable barrier before rolling. A passenger in the van, 36-year-old Justin D. Washington of Pell City, was ejected in the crash. Emergency crews were rushed to the scene to provide the necessary aid. Washington sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by responding medical personnel. The driver was also hurt and transported by ambulance to St. Vincent’s Hospital in Birmingham for treatment. No further information on the accident is currently available. An ongoing investigation into the cause of the incident is in progress.
